Milestone Achievement
In the NBA playoffs first round, the Dallas Mavericks fell short against the Los Angeles Clippers, losing 111-116. However, Luka Doncic achieved a significant milestone in his career, reaching 1000 playoff points, making him the third fastest player in league history to reach this feat. Nonetheless, despite his personal achievement, Doncic expressed regret for not supporting Kyrie Irving enough in the team’s loss.
Fast Track to 1000 Points
This game marked Doncic’s 32nd playoff appearance, and in the first quarter at 10 minutes and 14 seconds, Doncic’s free throw put him over the 1000-point mark in playoffs. This achievement places him alongside Elgin Baylor as the third fastest player to reach 1000 playoff points in NBA history, only behind Michael Jordan (in 28 games) and Wilt Chamberlain (in 29 games).
Doncic’s Performance and Irving’s Brilliance
In this matchup, Doncic played for 45 minutes, shooting 10 for 24 from the field, tallying 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for a triple-double, along with one block. On the other hand, Irving played for 44 minutes, making 12 of 6 three-pointers and going 6 for 6 from the free-throw line, scoring a game-high 40 points, in addition to 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Regret Over Support
Reflecting on Irving’s performance, Doncic acknowledged not providing enough support, stating, “I should have helped him more. I feel like I let him down. He has given everything he has. Throughout the series, Irving has brought amazing performances for us, and we need to help him more. So, I have to step up.”
Injury Concerns
Doncic also addressed his own injury situation, admitting significant pain in his right knee but emphasizing that he cannot use it as an excuse. Despite the discomfort, he remained on the court, contributing to the team’s effort.
Looking Ahead
Despite the loss, Doncic remains determined to push forward, focusing on the next game and the adjustments needed to bounce back. He expressed confidence in his team’s ability to regroup and emphasized the importance of collective effort in achieving success in the playoffs. (Phlwin)
